Sometimes, you need a little bit of help.

At TasIVF, we want to ensure everyone has the right support – and knowledge - to grow their family.

When it feels like it’s just not happening and you want to understand why, we’re here to provide you with expertise and care on your fertility journey. A fertility check-up is the first step and can be done in person or online.

Getting started with a fertility check-up

Begin your journey with TasIVF by attending your initial consultation with one of our leading fertility specialists. During this visit, the specialist will get to know your fertility journey to date and begin to investigate the potential cause of pregnancy delay. They may arrange further tests to gain a clear picture of your, and your partner’s, fertility.

Initial consultations can be face to face or online, depending on your Doctor and what works for you.

Fill out the form below or call 1800 111 483 to request an appointment.

What to expect at your first appointment

As part of your initial consultation, your fertility specialist will take a full medical history with special attention to:

  • menstrual history

  • timing of intercourse

  • any sexual issues and previous pregnancy history

  • results from any previous fertility tests

Please bring a doctor’s referral from a GP (valid for 12 months) or specialist (valid for three months), with both you and your partner’s name on the referral, if applicable. This will also ensure you are eligible for Medicare rebates.

The out-of-pocket cost of your first appointment can range between $200 and $350, depending on the specialist.

Call our friendly team on 1800 111 483 to learn more about getting started. We are committed to supporting you throughout your journey and can help with any questions you might have.

Understanding fertility

In a recent survey, we found out that many Australians don’t have a clear understanding of fertility, what it takes to conceive, and the available treatment options if conceiving becomes hard to do. Let's look at some of the common misconceptions below.

82% of Australians surveyed over-estimated the chance of natural conception in one month.

We spend much of our young adulthood trying to avoid getting pregnant, so it’s not surprising that many Australians assume the chance of pregnancy is high. The reality is, for a healthy heterosexual couple under the age of 35, the chance of natural conception is still only 15-20% each month. This number can decline if fertility factors come into play such as female age, gynaecological or ovulation issues, sperm quality, sperm quantity or others.

58% of Australians surveyed didn’t know the correct definition of infertility.

The word ‘infertility’ does seem scary. But it’s far more common, and far more treatable, than you might think. Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive a pregnancy after 12 months of unprotected sexual intercourse. It affects about 1 in 6 Australian couples of reproductive age.

The good news is, there are a wide range of fertility treatment options available. And although many assume infertility can only be treated by IVF, our fertility specialists will recommend a highly personalised treatment plan that can often start with the most natural, simple treatments.

48% didn't know when to seek help if struggling to conceive.

Seeking help for infertility can be daunting, but you are not alone—1 in 6 couples face this challenge. If you're under 35 and have been trying for 12 months, consult your GP or a fertility specialist. For those over 35, seek help after 6 months of trying.

If you have known gynaecological issues, irregular periods, or any other medical history that could impact your fertility, we suggest seeing a fertility specialist sooner rather than later to get the appropriate advice for your situation. Trust your instincts; don't hesitate to reach out sooner if you're worried.

1 in 5 thought infertility can only be treated by IVF.

IVF is undeniably an incredible fertility treatment, but it's essential to know that it's not the sole option available to those seeking help. Sometimes, all it takes is some expert advice or a treatment like ovulation induction to make a significant difference. Alternatively, you might want to explore more advanced techniques such as intrauterine insemination (IUI).

Rest assured, our experienced fertility specialists will discuss the options most suitable for your individual circumstances.
