During this visit, the specialist will get to know your fertility journey to date and begin to investigate the potential cause of pregnancy delay. They may arrange further tests to gain a clear picture of your, and your partner’s, fertility.

What to expect at your first appointment
As part of your initial consultation, your fertility specialist will take a full medical history with special attention to:
- menstrual history
- timing of intercourse
- any sexual issues and previous pregnancy history
- results from any previous fertility tests, or arrange further investigations.
Please bring a doctor’s referral from a GP (valid for 12 months) or specialist (valid for three months), with both you and your partner’s name on the referral, if applicable. This will also ensure you are eligible for Medicare rebates.
The out-of-pocket cost of your first appointment can range between $200 and $350, depending on the specialist.
